Cory operates four Transfer Stations along the River Thames where waste is bulked and compacted for onwards transfer by river to our Riverside 1 Energy from Waste Facility (EfW). The EfW in Belvedere, south-east London is one of the largest in Europe and is able to process 850,000 tonnes of waste a year.
We also operate a Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) facility and materials recovery in Barking, which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This transfer station is undergoing redevelopment to enable new processing capability and transfer operations via the River Thames.
We are currently recruiting for a Weighbridge Operator at Barking. The holder of this role will provide an important function that directly contributes to the daily working and smooth running of the Weighbridge through various operational duties and responsibilities.
Key elements of the role:
The main role of the Weighbridge Operator will be to work within a Team of weighbridge staff, oversee site access and to operate the weighbridge and associated systems to ensure waste receipt is recorded and that waste transfer, acceptance and disposal is compliant with statutory legislation and company procedure.
This will include:
- Maintaining the health, safety and security of the site:
- Understanding and managing the risks and hazards associated with the Weighbridge.
- Reporting any accidents or incidents to site management immediately and recording in the Weighbridge diary.
- Inducting and instructing customers, contractors and visitors to site, checking their understanding and inputting/distributing associated records.
- Ensuring site is compliant with environmental legislation
- Managing plant and equipment, including weighbridge inspections and defect reporting
- Controlling the end-to-end process of weighbridge movements
- Compiling waste input records/consumable deliveries, site daily diary and any other weighbridge related records as required by the Company or Manager
- Performing site inductions for contractors, delivery drivers and visitors
- Managing all internal and external communication and documentation
- Controlling the number of vehicle movements into the site and liaising with customers and peers with respect to traffic management
- Monitoring the compliance of site rules by customers’ drivers and reporting any vehicles contravening site rules or breaking speed limits

Shift Pattern:
- Average 47.5 hours per week.
- 8 hours Monday to Friday (10:00-18:30), plus 12 hours Saturday and Sunday every third weekend.
