Join Cory as a Transfer Station Supervisor in Barking, leading operations and ensuring compliance at a brand-new and largest transfer station in the UK

Job description

At Cory, we’re passionate about creating a cleaner, greener London by transforming waste into energy. Our Barking Transfer Station plays a vital role in this mission, operating 24/7 to keep waste moving efficiently along the River Thames to our state-of-the-art Energy from Waste facility in Belvedere. This facility is one of Europe’s largest, processing up to 850,000 tonnes of waste annually.

As a Transfer Station Supervisor, you’ll be at the heart of our operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly and safely. You’ll lead a dedicated team, making sure that waste is processed correctly and that our site remains compliant with all environmental and safety regulations. Your work will directly impact the efficiency of our transfer operations and help us deliver on our sustainability goals.

Day-to-day, you’ll oversee the receipt and processing of waste, manage operational staff, and maintain strict health, safety, and environmental standards. You’ll also ensure that maintenance activities are carried out effectively, keep accurate documentation, and communicate clearly with internal teams and external partners. This is a hands-on role where your leadership and organisational skills will make a real difference.

This is an exciting time to join us, as the Barking site is undergoing redevelopment to introduce new processing capabilities. You’ll play a key role in shaping these improvements and supporting the team through change.

Job requirements

To thrive in this role, you’ll need to bring strong organisational skills and a proven ability to lead a team in a busy operational environment. Supervisory experience is essential, as you’ll be guiding staff through daily tasks and ensuring everything runs efficiently and safely.

You should have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as clear and confident interaction with colleagues and external partners is key. A working knowledge of current Environment Agency and Health & Safety Executive legislation will help you maintain compliance and uphold our high standards. The ability to interpret technical data accurately is also important, as it underpins many of the decisions you’ll make on site.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in delivering great customer service and can build positive relationships across the business. An interest in recycling and sustainability will help you connect with our mission, and a friendly, approachable attitude is essential for leading and motivating your team.

While formal education to GCSE level or equivalent is required, we value practical experience and a proactive mindset just as highly. If you’re organised, safety-conscious, and ready to make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you—even if you don’t tick every single box.
